FIX TO - GNS3 VM Greyed out , GNS3 VM not getting green

The following steps has been working for me for almost a week with respect to the title above, on this note i feel i have to share to help everyone with this challenge.
First be sure you have followed all the necessary protocols to install GNS gui and GNS VM.
Remember both GNS gui and VM should be of the same version number.
For example the current version as of this post is 2.2.7, kindly make sure you are using GNS gui 2.2.7 and GNS VM 2.2.7
if you are on the current version. Though i strongly believe this procedure will work for other version numbers having the same challange.
FIrst of all take note that i have had GNS vm not turning green / greyed out on me when i installed version 2.2.7. As a result of this challenge i installed older versions and it will work fresh out of the box untill you restart your machine. This issue consistently happened to me irrespective of the version i installed. It only seem to work after multiple restarts.
Take note if you are running 2.2.7 and vmware workstation pro make sure you are running 15.5.2 build 15785246

FIX
====
1. Make sure you have followed all the protocols to install GNS3 gui and GNS vm
2. Fix issues with your antivirus and firewall that will usually prevent GNS3 gui and the vm from playing out well
( I run bitdefender antivirus, if you are running this antivirus and wants to know how to solve the challenges it creates comment below)
When GNS3 vm indicator in the gui is not green or is greyed out after starting the GNS gui and a call is made to vmware workstation to start the VM do the following;
3. Close GNS3 gui. This will shutdown the GNS3 VM and close vmware workstation pro too.
4. Open Network and Sharing Centre and Click on Change adapter settings. This will open Network Connections to your computer.
5. Look out for the 2 VMware Network Adapter (In my case VMnet1 and VMnet8) and disable both of them and enable them again
6. After successfully doing the steps above start the GNS3 gui and wait for it start the vm and the indicator now becomes green. |
