Exam DescriptionCandidates preparing for the CCIE Service Provider Written exam should possess expert level knowledge as a Service Provider network engineer to design, implement, optimize, diagnose, and troubleshoot Service Provider backbone based on dual stack solutions: IPv4 and IPv6. The candidate should have expert knowledge in features and technologies including BGP, IGP Routing, MPLS, Multicast, High Availability, Fast Convergence, Quality of Services, Layer 2 VPNs and Layer 3 VPNs. The candidate should also have overall knowledge in technology such as Security, Management, Virtualization, and Mobility Exam Format- The written exam is a 2-hour, multiple-choice exam with 90-110 questions
- The exam is closed book and no outside reference materials are allowed
- Candidates will be required to answer each question before moving on to the next question. In other words, candidates will not be allowed to skip a question and come back to it at a later time
- The overall exam score and the exam passing score will be reported on a scale from 300-1000

Lab ExamThe CCIE Service Provider lab exam version 4.0 is an eight-hour hands-on exam, which requires a candidate to configure, optimize, diagnose, and troubleshoot a series of complex network scenarios for a given specification based on dual stack solutions (IPv4 and IPv6). Knowledge of troubleshooting is an important skill and candidates are expected to diagnose and solve issues as part of the CCIE lab exam. Lab Exam EnvironmentCisco documentation is available on-line during the exam, however knowledge of the more common protocols and technologies is assumed. The documentation can only be navigated using the index, as the search function has been disabled. No outside reference materials are permitted in the lab room. You must report any suspected equipment issues to the proctor during the exam; adjustments cannot be made once the exam is over. Lab Exam GradingThe labs are graded by proctors who ensure that all the criteria have been met. They will use automatic tools to gather data from the routers in order to perform preliminary evaluations. Candidates must reach a minimum threshold in all three sections and achieve an overall passing score. ResultsYou can review your lab exam results online (login required), usually within 48 hours. Results are Pass/Fail and failing score reports indicate major topic areas where additional study and preparation may be useful. Reevaluation of Lab ResultsA Reread involves having a second proctor load your configurations into a rack to re-create the test and re-score the entire exam. Rereads are available for the Routing and Switching, and Service Provider technology tracks. A Review involves having a second proctor verify your answers and any applicable system-generated debug data saved from your exam. Reviews are available for all other tracks. Payment TermsMake your request within 14 days following your exam date by using the "Request for Reread" link next to your lab record. A Reread costs 00.00 USD and a Review costs 0.00 USD. Payment is made online via credit card and your Reread or Review will be initiated upon successful payment. You may not cancel the appeal request once the process has been initiated. CCIE Service Provider Lab Equipment and SoftwarePassing the lab exam requires a depth of understanding difficult to obtain without hands-on experience. Early in your preparation you should arrange access to equipment similar to that used on the exam, and listed below. The Cisco CCIE Service Provider assesses knowledge of platform-independent concepts that are applicable across the portfolio of Service Provider equipment, for example, routers and metro Ethernet switches. These functionalities are available in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2 and Cisco IOS 15.4S Release running within a 100% virtual environment. In order to practice, prepare, and become familiar with the virtualized Cisco Virtual lab environment, Cisco Expert-Level training for CCIE is available through Cisco Authorized Learning Partners. Candidates can register for courses on the Cisco Learning Locator. Candidates who want to prepare using hardware-based labs can use the following equipment and Cisco Software releases: - P and PE role: ASR 9000 series running IOS-XR 5.2 Release
- RR and CE role: ASR 1000 series running IOS-XE 3.13 (15.4S) Release
- PE and CE role: Cisco 7600 series running IOS 15.4S Release
- Access and Aggregation: ME 3600 series running IOS 15.4S Release
Any other hardware platform that support IOS-XR 5.2 may be also used for P and PE role as well as any other hardware platform that support 15.4S may be also used for RR, PE, and CE functionality. The candidate may see more recent Cisco Software releases installed in the lab, however the candidate will not be tested on the new features of the release unless indicated above.
